Areas of the rural and semi rural landscape in the Scenic Rim are suffering from adverse effects of toxic spray drift. The aerial spraying with agricultual chemicals is permitted by national and state authorities but only under strict regulatory guidelines. Links to those guidelines have been published on our website so that we can be better informed.
The small rural state school of Darlington has been closed and the EPA tests have confirmed the presence of chemical residue at the school. See ABC news. The Queensland Council of Parents and Citizens Associations says chemical spraying should never happen near school grounds while children are in attendance.
Several state agencies are investigating and the community is wanting to kept informed of processes and outcomes. Further options and actions by the community will be discussed at the meeting.
